umkt.ac.id, Samarinda — EducationUSA Samarinda once again broadened information access for studying abroad by conducting a special seminar entitled “AmeriTalks: Studying in the U.S.: Trends in Popular Majors and Top Fields” on Monday (17/11/2025). This event was held by EducationUSA, in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) as the host of the event. The event is considered special, since it invited two special guests — John T. Slover as the Public Diplomacy Officer for the Embassy of the United States to Jakarta, and Muhammad Iqbal, the Senior Advisor of EducationUSA.
The event was conducted at the Jenderal Sudirman Building (Building G) UMKT, attended by more than a hundred students across study programs, who were enthusiastic to explore more about the study opportunities in the United States, current study program trends, and the application processes involved.
Slover in his presentation emphasized the United States opened its hands to everyone who wants to study in the country. He then explained the general overview of popular fields of study in various United States’ universities and current development of the United States’ higher education. Participants were interactive throughout the session, asking enquiries about scholarship, career opportunities. Participants were also curious about campus life in America.

Shortly after Slover delivered his presentation, Iqbal then presented the services and roles provided by the EducationUSA as the official information center for studying in the USA. He asserted all the services offered are free of charge for everyone consulting at the EducationUSA and can be accessed by anyone.
He also explained the steps of enrolling into the campuses in the US. First, the applicants must do their research to suit their needs and capabilities, then followed by securing education funds — whether it is self-funded or funded by lots of scholarship offerings, applying study visa, and finally preparing for the departure to the US.
At the conclusion of his session, Iqbal expected that there would be a myriad of Indonesian students, continuing their study in the United States. He also affirmed EducationUSA was ready to assist the process thoroughly.

Through this collaboration, EducationUSA Samarinda and UMKT provide students with new perspectives, as well as a boosting motivation to ensure students can develop their careers and education to the global level.
