UMKT Welcomed a Visitation from the United States Embassy to Indonesia

umkt.ac.id, Samarinda — Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) received a visit from the Public Diplomacy Officer of the United States Embassy to Indonesia, Mr. John T. Slover on Monday (17/11/2025). UMKT was the first institution visited by Slover on his public diplomacy tour in Kalimantan.

Slover was greeted by Muhammad Musiyam as the Rector of UMKT. Musiyam was accompanied by Abdul Halim as the Vice Rector of Academic, Quality Assurance, Students, and Alumni Affairs, and Anita Shalehah as the Director of the UMKT International Relations Office (IRO). With Slover, Musiyam discussed collaboration opportunities between in the fields of academic cooperation, international education programs, as well as bolstering mutual relations between UMKT and the United States.

Slover then continued his tour at UMKT by visiting the EducationUSA Samarinda Center, located at the Jenderal Sudirman Building (Building G) of UMKT. During his visit, Slover recorded a special podcast with EducationUSA volunteers, discussing the opportunity of studying in the United States and the role of youths in education diplomacy.  After the podcast, Slover also had small chats with the volunteers.

The visit is expected to open close and broad cooperation opportunities between the UMKT and United States’ educational institutions, thereby increasing the international exposure for students and all of the UMKT’s civitas academica.
