Fostering a Sustainable Campus: Students Drive SDGs Week Through Creative Waste Bin Project

In a concrete effort to realize a clean, healthy, and eco-friendly campus ecosystem, Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) held a real action through a series of SDGs Week events. Carrying the spirit of "BRAD with Students" this initiative focuses on taking concrete steps in waste management directly from the source.
As a form of active contribution toward sustainable development, students collaborated to produce and provide segregated waste bin facilities across the campus area. This step was taken not merely to provide physical facilities, but also as an educational medium for the entire academic community on the importance of sorting waste from an early stage.

The event organizers stated that active student involvement is the main key to building a culture of environmental care. With the presence of these segregated waste bins, it is hoped that the awareness of students and the campus community in separating organic, inorganic, and plastic waste can increase significantly.
Through more structured waste management, UMKT is optimistic about creating a campus environment that is not only free from piled-up waste, but also transforms into a sustainable Green Campus for a better future generation.
Let’s protect our planet together—starting with proper waste segregation on our campus!
