UMKT's Commitment to Sustainable Development

Increasingly hot air temperatures, unpredictable seasonal changes, and extreme climate change pose threats to human life. These issues underpin UMKT's commitment to preserving the environment by implementing environmentally friendly practices such as the use of renewable energy, efficient waste management, and open building usage. UMKT believes that these various initiatives can create a more viable and safe environment for future generations pursuing higher education at UMKT.

Sustainable Curriculum

UMKT demonstrates its commitment and dedication to practicing sustainable environmental values through its educational curriculum. This effort plays a role in educating sustainable development goals in the teaching and learning activities of students and lecturers. As a sustainability-friendly campus, this step ensures that sustainable development goals are well integrated into every academic spectrum that forms the heart of the university.

Energy-Efficient Buildings

Buildings at UMKT are designed to be energy-efficient, such as utilizing natural light to illuminate rooms, using ventilation for clean air circulation, constructing green open spaces within buildings, efficient waste and water management, and using renewable energy sources like solar panels as a power source, among others.

Use of Renewable Energy

UMKT is committed to reducing carbon emissions by using renewable energy. Several buildings at UMKT have already adopted solar panels, such as the Siti Walidah Main Building and the UMKT Edutorium. UMKT also continues to conduct research and development on renewable energy, such as the development of electric vehicles, and more.

Comfort in Mobility

As an effort to help reduce air pollution, the UMKT campus area is designed to be pedestrian and cyclist-friendly. This is certainly beneficial for individual health and environmental health. Move safely, engage comfortably.

Car Pooling

As part of UMKT, all students and staff can participate in preserving the environment by parking their private vehicles in designated parking areas and using public transportation provided by UMKT for commuting.

Energy-Efficient Equipment

The equipment used daily can influence carbon emissions, which indirectly impacts the environment. UMKT recognizes this and is committed to preserving the environment by using energy-efficient equipment. Some examples include the use of energy-saving LED lights.

Towards Zero-Waste

UMKT continues to strive for a zero-waste environment through various means, including minimizing paper usage, recycling waste, and initiating other waste reduction movements. UMKT also continuously encourages the entire academic community to reduce waste from drinking bottles, plastics, and more.

Waste Management

Waste management is a tangible form of UMKT's commitment to preserving the environment. Waste is sorted based on organic waste, non-organic waste, and hazardous waste. Organic waste is processed for reuse. Non-organic waste is recycled for reuse. Hazardous waste is managed carefully in accordance with applicable regulations.

Water Conservation

UMKT pays attention to waste management both within and outside the campus. One of the initiatives undertaken is the presence of Lake Salsabila, which is capable of collecting rainwater. Its utilization is directed towards the distribution of irrigation around the campus.

Green Campus

UMKT possesses a green campus environment and is attentive to the preservation of nature. Every corner of the campus is filled with trees that provide shade and refreshing beauty. The trees not only offer aesthetic benefits but also play a crucial role in maintaining air quality, providing a healthy environment, and creating a comfortable and serene atmosphere for all students. With the abundant presence of trees, we are committed to preserving the environment and maintaining the natural beauty on our campus.
