UMKT Faculty of Medicine Delivers Post-Disaster Medical Relief to Pantai Tinjau Village

umkt.ac.id, Samarinda – The Emergency Response Team from the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (FoM UMKT), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, recently provided essential health services to the disaster-affected community of Pantai Tinjau Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency. This initiative highlights the critical role higher education institutions play in supporting public health recovery in the wake of natural disasters.

The medical outreach was conducted through two primary methods: comprehensive health screenings at a centralized command post and door-to-door home visits. These home visits were specifically designed to ensure that individuals with limited mobility or disabilities, who were unable to reach the command post, still received necessary medical attention.

During the mission, the team conducted a thorough assessment of the post-disaster conditions in Pantai Tinjau Village. They noted that muddy road conditions, a lack of clean water, and a dust-laden environment have left villagers highly vulnerable to illness. These environmental factors underscore the urgent need for ongoing health monitoring and community education.

The UMKT medical team identified several prevalent health issues typical of post-disaster scenarios, including respiratory infections and skin conditions. The team provided immediate clinical interventions and treatments tailored to each patient's diagnosis.

Through these services, the FoM and the Directorate General reaffirmed their commitment to providing responsive and adaptive community outreach. The presence of the UMKT Faculty of Medicine in Pantai Tinjau Village is expected to safeguard the long-term health and well-being of the residents while bolstering recovery efforts across the Aceh Tamiang Regency.
