umkt.ac.id, Samarinda — Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) convened a special seminar titled "The 2nd Anniversary of The Zayed Award on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together" on Thursday (12/2). Held at the Co-Working Space in the General Sudirman Building, the event served as a commemoration of the prestigious international recognition bestowed upon Muhammadiyah in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 4, 2024.
Attended by university leadership, Muhammadiyah figures, intellectuals, and the broader academic community, the seminar featured distinguished speakers including Dr. (HC) dr. Sudibyo Markus, and Prof. Romo Franz Magnis-Suseno S.J. The discussion centered on the critical themes of human fraternity, global ethics, and the pivotal role of educational and religious institutions in shaping world peace.
In his opening remarks, UMKT Rector Dr. Muhammad Musiyam, M.T., emphasized that the Zayed Award is not merely an accolade but a moral mandate. It underscores the duty to present Islam in its truest form—humane, inclusive, and beneficial to the global community.
"The Zayed Award is a global testament to the contributions of Muhammadiyah in promoting universal humanitarian values. As a da'wah movement, Muhammadiyah carries an inclusive mission where interfaith tolerance is an inseparable principle," Dr. Musiyam stated.
K.H. Siswanto, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah East Kalimantan Regional Board (PWM Kaltim), highlighted the necessity of "collective conscience" and sound reasoning in maintaining social harmony amidst diversity. He views Muhammadiyah’s status as a Zayed Award honoree as a momentum to strengthen solidarity and champion justice.
"May this award reawaken our conscience to manifest global fraternity and encourage a more inclusive way of life for all," Siswanto remarked.
The Zayed Award on Human Fraternity is a global recognition for individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to human fraternity, tolerance, and world peace. Awarded to Muhammadiyah in 2024, it highlights the organization's profound impact in strengthening cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue on a global scale.
Through this commemorative seminar, Muhammadiyah reaffirms its commitment to integrate universal humanitarian values into education, research, and community service. By broadening its global network, Muhammadiyah continues its dedication to creating a just and peaceful world.
