UMKT Law Students Association Invited Ganjar Pranowo, Discussing the Role of Youth in Democracy

umkt.ac.id, Samarinda – The Faculty of Law at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (FH UMKT), in collaboration with the Law Students Association (Himakum), successfully hosted a national seminar and public discussion titled “Protecting the Nation’s Common Sense: Youth Voices, Roles, and Actions in a Democracy.” The event took place on Apr. 15 2026, at the Coworking Space in the General Sudirman Building (Building G).

As a flagship part of the annual “Law Fest,” the seminar drew a high-profile audience, including representatives from the Mayor of Samarinda, the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board (MPB) of East Kalimantan, UMKT Vice-Rectors, and the Faculty of Law leadership.

The seminar featured a diverse panel of national and local experts, notably Ganjar Pranowo (Governor of Central Java, 2013–2023), alongside legal scholars and activists Ikhwanul Muslimin, Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, and Nurlaila Ramadani.

Losa Raja Amru, Chairman of the organizing committee, proudly reported an impressive turnout of over 600 participants, including students and members of the general public.

“This seminar serves as an open dialogue platform for students and the community to reinforce critical awareness and safeguard the quality of democracy in Indonesia,” Losa stated.

Jonathan Rafly, Chairman of Himakum for the 2025–2026 term, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the youth are the primary custodians of democratic values.

Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, Dean of the Faculty of Law, lauded the initiative, noting that the presence of such distinguished speakers significantly enriches the academic discourse at UMKT.

“This event acts as 'intellectual fuel' for those eager for academic engagement. It strengthens the university's role as a platform for dialectic and the development of critical thinking,” Aidul asserted.

Through this initiative, UMKT continues to encourage young people to be active agents of change — empowered to protect the nation’s "common sense" amidst the complex and ever-evolving dynamics of modern democracy.
