UMKT Students Launch Eco-Friendly "A-ZYME Urban Agro Soap" Product

umkt.ac.id, Tanah Grogot – Students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) have once again demonstrated their commitment to community-centered sustainability. Five forward-thinking Agrotechnology students from the Faculty of Agriculture and Digital Business have successfully developed “A-ZYME Urban Agro Soap,” an eco-friendly hand soap crafted from fermented fruit peels that typically go to waste in typical households.

The innovative team is spearheaded by Gusti Milda, alongside her peers: Riski Hamdani, Rahmawati, Muhammad Hipni, and Muhammad Yazer A.S. Under the expert guidance of Agrotechnology lecturer Primadiyanti Arsela, the team has been researching and refining the product since March 2026, utilizing the program's laboratory for formulation, and the program’s campus for internal testing.

The initiative was sparked by a dual challenge: the rising demand for skin-safe personal hygiene products and the environmental menace of unmanaged domestic organic waste. Instead of letting organic waste clutter local ecosystems, the team utilized the power of natural eco-enzymes through a meticulous fermentation process.

By blending these rich eco-enzymes with ingredients such as virgin coconut oil (VCO), soap noodles, and methyl ester sulfonate (MES), they created a powerful hand soap. The result is a product that effectively cleanses, remains gentle on the skin, and is entirely biodegradable.

This project also serves as a practical launchpad for real-world business skills. Each team member handles distinct operational responsibilities, ranging from production and eco-friendly product design to strategic marketing and financial management.

Therefore, A-ZYME Urban Agro Soap is engineered to achieve a triple impact: raising awareness about hand hygiene, reducing organic household waste, and promoting an accessible, sustainable lifestyle.

To capture consumer interest, the soap is presented in eye-catching, sustainable packaging that reflects its green identity, turning a simple research project into a commercially viable product.

UMKT students through this innovation demonstrates their creativity in inventing eco-friendly products and beneficial solutions for the local community, pioneering pathways for innovative and green business opportunities in the future.
