umkt.ac.id, Balikpapan — The Office for Cooperation and International Affairs at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (OCIA UMKT) recently organized a study tour to Watu Beach in Balikpapan on Saturday, August 15. The event, themed “Intercultural Gathering: Connect, Share, and Celebrate the Beautiful Diversity that Brings Us Together at UMKT,” was attended by the OCIA Director, staff, and international students. The gathering aimed to build social bonds among international students and provide a refreshing experience with the OCIA community.
The Director of OCIA, Rahmatullah Ayu Hasmiati, explained that the initiative was designed to bring together all UMKT international students, including those who recently joined for the current academic year.
“This event was organized so that every international student can familiarize themselves and interact with their peers. As we welcome students from all corners of the world, it is essential to provide this event as a form of sincere acceptance into the UMKT family,” explained Rahmatullah.
The day’s activities featured various team-building games designed to test collaboration, such as a sarong relay and a blindfolded color-matching challenge. Participants also enjoyed a potluck lunch, featuring meals prepared by both students and OCIA staff.
The gathering concluded with leisure time, where students relaxed on the beach by playing cards and swimming near the shore.
Essra Mohammed Osman, an Informatics Engineering undergraduate from Sudan, expressed her satisfaction with the event, noting that it provided a valuable opportunity to connect with her peers.
“I am happy to spend my vacation at the beach while interacting with new international students. This is an invaluable moment that I will cherish,” said Essra.
