UMKT Holds Annual Meeting to Outline Development Strategy for Academic Year 2026/27

Samarinda, umkt.ac.id — Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) organized an annual meeting for the 2026/27 academic year at the Mercure Hotel Ballroom on Saturday, August 29. The meeting brought together advisory board members, university executive leadership, and heads of faculties, units, and departments. The event serves as a core platform to evaluate institutional performance and chart future development strategies.

Dahlan Rais, speaking on behalf of the Advisory Board, emphasized the importance of self-assessment during the opening discussions.

“We must reflect on and evaluate our previous policies and plans. That includes revising and readjusting policies that require urgent attention,” Rais stated.

In line with this focus on strategic adjustment, Muhammad Musiyam, the Rector of the University, delivered a presentation titled “Establishing UMKT’s Better Reputation Through Competitive Alumni: The Higher Education Strategy Facing Job Market Transformation and Opportunities from Nusantara Capital City.”

During the presentation, Musiyam highlighted developing alumni competitiveness as an essential step to elevate UMKT’s global reputation. The university was urged to remain adaptive and resilient amidst dynamic job market shifts and emerging opportunities in Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital city.

The agenda continued with a plenary session covering core operational areas, including academic affairs, quality assurance, student development, finance, research, and institutional values. Key discussions centered on expanding international partnerships, developing business portfolios, modernizing IT infrastructure, and improving graduate career outcomes.

Participants subsequently split into two working commissions to formulate actionable steps. Their work focused on boosting graduate employability, advancing university accreditation, and upgrading facilities, research publication, and technology commercialization (hilirisasi/downstreaming).

The insights and strategy produced during this event will guide UMKT as it addresses evolving challenges in higher education. Beyond a routine schedule item, the meeting serves as a catalyst to raise educational standards, enhance brand value, and prepare students for an increasingly competitive global job market.
